Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania – Drivers across the Poconos and far northern New Jersey could run into slick roads and reduced traction early Tuesday as a mix of snow and ice spreads into the region, creating travel concerns through the afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from the pre-dawn hours Tuesday through late afternoon for Sussex County in New Jersey and Carbon and Monroe counties in eastern Pennsylvania. Snow is expected to develop overnight, with periods of mixed precipitation continuing into the daytime hours.
Snow accumulations are forecast to range from 1 to 4 inches, with a light glaze of ice possible, especially during the early morning hours. Areas around Stroudsburg, Jim Thorpe, and Newton may see the most significant travel impacts during the Tuesday morning commute as untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses become slippery.
The combination of snow and light icing could slow traffic along major routes including I-80, Route 33, and local mountain roadways. Even modest accumulations may lead to delays, particularly in higher elevations and shaded areas where surfaces remain cold.
Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check road conditions before heading out. Conditions should gradually improve by late Tuesday afternoon, though lingering slick spots may persist as temperatures hover near freezing. Additional updates or advisories remain possible if precipitation trends change.
