Philadelphia, PA – Two waves of severe thunderstorms are expected to batter the region Friday, beginning late this morning and continuing through the evening, bringing dangerous winds and potential tornadoes across four states.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, the first round of storms is expected between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., followed by a second wave from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., with lingering activity possible into the night. Damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, small hail, and even isolated tornadoes are possible across southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, Delaware, and the Delmarva Peninsula.

Communities in Philadelphia, Wilmington, Atlantic City, and Dover should prepare for downed trees and power lines. Outdoor plans and commutes may be disrupted, and residents are urged to secure loose objects, charge devices, and avoid unnecessary travel during storms.

This afternoon’s storms will follow a foggy morning, adding to low visibility concerns. Today’s system marks one of the region’s most widespread thunderstorm events this month.

Severe thunderstorm warnings may be issued with little notice. Stay weather alert through Friday evening as conditions may shift rapidly.
