Philadelphia, PA – Residents across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware should prepare for a wet night followed by a sharply colder, windy Sunday as a strong cold front moves through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, periods of rain will continue through the overnight hours Saturday into early Sunday morning, with a few rumbles of thunder possible before conditions gradually dry out. The bigger concern arrives Sunday afternoon, when winds significantly increase behind the passing front.
Forecasters say peak gusts of 40 to 50 mph are expected across much of eastern Pennsylvania, central and southern New Jersey, and northern Delaware. The strongest winds are anticipated from midday through early evening. These gusts may blow around unsecured outdoor items and could lead to isolated power outages and sporadic tree damage, especially in areas already softened by recent rainfall.
Temperatures will fluctuate noticeably through the event. Overnight lows will stay in the upper 40s to low 50s, but warmer air briefly surges ahead of the front Sunday morning, pushing readings closer to 60 degrees across parts of the Philadelphia metro. Once the front passes, temperatures will fall through the afternoon, creating a raw and blustery finish to the weekend. Higher-elevation communities such as Mount Pocono may even see lingering showers or a few mixed rain/snow showers.
Communities from Trenton and Allentown to Atlantic City, Wilmington, and Georgetown are urged to monitor updates and secure loose outdoor objects before the gusty conditions arrive.
