Mount Holly, NJ – The 2025 growing season has officially ended for portions of eastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Mount Holly.

Temperatures dropped to freezing or below on Friday night, October 10, across multiple counties in both states. The NWS says this marks the official end of the agricultural growing season for the year.

According to the weather service, the declaration applies to several forecast zones. In New Jersey, this includes Hunterdon, Morris, Somerset, Sussex, and Warren counties. In Pennsylvania, the growing season has ended for Upper Bucks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, western Montgomery, and Northampton counties.

This annual designation signals that no further frost advisories, freeze watches, or freeze warnings will be issued for these regions until spring 2026. Farmers and gardeners in these areas are now advised to complete end-of-season harvests and prepare for winter conditions.

The NWS typically makes this declaration after the first widespread freeze of autumn, marking the end of the period when frost-sensitive vegetation can survive outdoors.

Residents are encouraged to protect any remaining plants or outdoor plumbing and prepare for colder nights ahead as the region moves deeper into fall.
