Philadelphia, PA – Flash flooding has already closed roads and stranded cars in Bensalem early Saturday morning, with more heavy rain expected across southeastern Pennsylvania and central New Jersey through 4:45 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, flash flood warnings remain in effect for Philadelphia, Camden, Burlington, Bucks, Mercer, and surrounding counties as thunderstorms dump up to 1.5 inches of rain per hour. Spotters confirmed road flooding in Bensalem around 1:40 a.m., and additional rainfall of up to 2 inches could intensify conditions before sunrise.

Communities at risk include Trenton, Ewing, Cherry Hill, Mount Laurel, Norristown, Yardley, and West Norriton. Major streams and creeks such as Crosswicks, Neshaminy, Assunpink, and the Pennypack are being monitored for rising waters. Urban drainage systems are overwhelmed in several locations, creating dangerous underpass and street flooding.

Drivers should avoid non-essential travel overnight. “Turn around, don’t drown” remains a critical warning as most flood fatalities occur in vehicles. Residents are urged to stay alert, especially in low-lying areas, and check for updated alerts before heading out.

Flash flood warnings remain in effect until at least 4:45 a.m., with additional advisories possible if rain continues into daybreak.
