Butler County, PA – A police pursuit across Butler and Armstrong counties Monday afternoon led to a crash, a car theft, and an ongoing search for a suspect now wanted for aggravated assault, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Troopers from the Kittanning and Butler stations said the chase began around 4:41 p.m. on October 20, 2025, when Ronald Piper, 46, allegedly attempted to strike a trooper with a vehicle after spike strips were deployed. The trooper had been standing off the roadway when the incident occurred.

Police said Piper continued driving into a wooded area before fleeing on foot and was not located. Around 5 a.m. Tuesday, investigators received a report of a stolen vehicle from Bear Road in the same area where the pursuit ended. Authorities believe Piper stole the vehicle after the crash.

The recovered vehicle was found damaged on State Route 422 near Swartzlander Lane in Clearfield Township. Police said Piper later stole a second car — a gray 2005 Honda Civic with Pennsylvania plate MCV7837 — and remains at large.

An active warrant has been issued for Piper on multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, fleeing police, and reckless endangerment. He is described as 5’7” tall, 170 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair.
