Northwest Pennsylvania remains under a Lake Effect Snow Warning as a multi-day lake effect snow event continues to impact travel through Thursday evening.
The National Weather Service in Cleveland reports that northern Erie County, including Erie, could see up to 15 inches of snowfall, while southern Erie and Crawford counties — including Meadville, Corry, Edinboro, Titusville, and Union City — may receive up to 24 inches before the warning expires at 7 p.m. EST Thursday.
Wind gusts up to 45 mph will worsen conditions by producing blowing and drifting snow, significantly reducing visibility. After an initial round of snowfall today, a more intense and persistent lake effect snow band is expected to redevelop this evening and continue through Thursday evening, with snowfall rates high enough to quickly cover roads.
Travel could become very difficult, especially during periods of heavy snow and reduced visibility. Gusty winds may also result in downed tree branches and isolated disruptions.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation strongly advises motorists to delay unnecessary travel and check conditions at 511pa.com. Drivers who must travel should carry emergency supplies and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
