Cleveland, Ohio – An Ice Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 a.m. EST Saturday for portions of northwest Pennsylvania, where freezing rain is creating hazardous travel conditions, according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland.
The warning covers Crawford County and southern Erie County, including the communities of Meadville, Titusville, Edinboro, Corry, and Union City.
Forecasters say additional ice accumulations between one-tenth and two-tenths of an inch are expected through the evening hours. Even small amounts of ice can make roads extremely slippery, particularly on bridges, overpasses, hills, and untreated surfaces.
The National Weather Service warns that roads will likely become slick and hazardous, with difficult travel conditions possible, especially during the Friday evening commute. Visibility may remain limited at times as freezing rain continues, increasing the risk of accidents.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission strongly encourage motorists to delay unnecessary travel and heed all posted travel restrictions. Drivers are urged to check the latest road and traffic conditions by visiting www.511pa.com before heading out.
Officials advise that anyone who must travel should do so with extreme caution. Motorists are encouraged to reduce speed, increase following distance, and avoid sudden braking or acceleration. Extra caution is advised when navigating hills, curves, and intersections, where ice buildup can be especially dangerous.
Residents are also reminded to ensure their vehicles are properly winterized and equipped with emergency supplies, including food, water, and a flashlight, in case of delays or emergencies.
The Ice Storm Warning is scheduled to expire at 1 a.m. EST Saturday, though lingering slick spots may continue to impact travel into the overnight and early morning hours.
