Pittsburgh, PA – A significant ice storm continues to impact higher elevations in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, creating hazardous conditions that could last until 10 a.m. Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, areas under the Ice Storm Warning include higher elevations of Fayette, Westmoreland, and Indiana Counties in Pennsylvania, as well as Eastern Preston and Eastern Tucker Counties in West Virginia. Ice accumulation of up to three-tenths of an inch is expected, which could lead to power outages, tree damage, and treacherous road conditions.
Travel is strongly discouraged as ice-covered roads could be nearly impassable. The Thursday morning commute may be significantly affected, particularly in areas such as Ligonier, Ohiopyle, Champion, Davis, and Terra Alta.
Residents should prepare for potential power outages by charging electronic devices, stocking emergency supplies, and avoiding unnecessary travel. Authorities urge drivers to exercise extreme caution and report ice accumulations or damage to the National Weather Service Pittsburgh office via phone, Facebook, or Twitter (@NWSPittsburgh).
