Harrisburg, Pa. – Scorching heat and humidity will grip much of central and southern Pennsylvania Friday, with heat index values soaring to 104°F across a wide swath of the state.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday for ten counties, including Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, Schuylkill, and York. The warning covers major hubs like Harrisburg, Lancaster, York, Chambersburg, and Pottsville.
The combination of high temperatures and stifling humidity could lead to heat-related illnesses, particularly among older adults, outdoor workers, and those without air conditioning. Emergency managers urge residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activity, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
School summer programs, youth sports leagues, and outdoor events in affected counties may consider modifying schedules or moving indoors. Local health departments also recommend visiting cooling centers if home air conditioning isn’t available.
With car interiors heating rapidly, officials stress: “Look before you lock”—never leave pets or children in vehicles.
The advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Friday, with additional alerts possible if temperatures stay elevated through the weekend.
