Pittsburgh, PA – Rivers and streams across parts of western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia could rise quickly this afternoon, prompting a Flood Watch through 10 p.m. Wednesday for several counties, including Westmoreland and Fayette in Pennsylvania.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, the watch is also in effect for Eastern Monongalia, Preston, and Tucker counties in West Virginia. Forecasters cite a combination of yesterday’s heavy rainfall and more precipitation expected today, warning that the saturated ground may lead to localized flooding.

Communities near rivers and creeks—particularly low-lying areas—should prepare for water levels to rise rapidly. Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded roadways and to have evacuation routes ready in case of sudden water surges. Emergency managers in both states recommend charging cell phones, securing outdoor belongings, and keeping an eye on local alerts throughout the day.

Although no immediate evacuations have been issued, officials say the risk for flash flooding will remain elevated into the evening, especially in areas with poor drainage. Further Flood Warnings may be issued as conditions evolve.

Stay tuned for updates from the National Weather Service and local emergency officials as the situation develops.
