Harrisburg, Pa. – Flash flooding is possible across much of central and western Pennsylvania through Saturday afternoon as rounds of heavy rain threaten to overwhelm streams, roads, and low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service offices in State College and Pittsburgh, a Flood Watch remains in effect until 2 p.m. for 17 counties, including Elk, Centre, Clarion, Venango, and Columbia. Rainfall totals could reach 1 to 3 inches in several areas, with thunderstorm cells producing rates of up to 2 inches per hour.

Cities like State College, Williamsport, and Punxsutawney could see localized flash flooding near poor drainage spots, small creeks, and underpasses. Travel may be dangerous on routes like U.S. 322, I-80, and PA-255, especially during morning and midday hours.

Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads, keep phones charged, and monitor local alerts. Basement and urban flooding is also a concern in places like Sunbury and DuBois, where saturated ground from recent rain may worsen runoff.

The heaviest rainfall is expected to taper by late afternoon, but officials warn that additional Flood Warnings may be issued if storms redevelop.
