Pittsburgh, PA – A Flood Watch is in effect from late Thursday night through Saturday afternoon for parts of western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia, as heavy rainfall and melting snow could lead to ice jam flooding.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Pittsburgh, rainfall amounts between 0.75 to 1.5 inches are expected across the region. With an existing snowpack melting, area rivers may experience rapid rises, increasing the risk of localized flooding, especially where ice jams form.

The Flood Watch covers Westmoreland, Fayette, and higher elevation areas in Pennsylvania, along with Monongalia, Preston, and Tucker counties in West Virginia. While no forecast points are expected to reach minor flood stage, residents near rivers and low-lying areas should remain cautious.

Potential Impacts and Safety Precautions

• Ice jams may cause sudden water level rises, leading to flash flooding.
• Roads near rivers or creeks could become impassable.
• Property owners in flood-prone areas should monitor conditions closely.

Residents are urged to stay informed through the NWS Pittsburgh website and local authorities. If flooding develops, be prepared to take action.
