Allentown, Pa. – Flash flooding is already underway in parts of southeastern Pennsylvania early Saturday as heavy rain pushes creeks over their banks, threatening roads and low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 5:15 a.m. for eastern Berks, southern Lehigh, west-central Bucks, and northwestern Montgomery counties. Gauges along the Perkiomen Creek at East Greenville recorded water levels at 5.16 feet—above the 5-foot flood stage—as of 2:45 a.m. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have already fallen, with up to half an inch more possible.

Residents in Allentown, Pottstown, and Quakertown should avoid flood-prone roads and underpasses. The Little Lehigh Creek near Trexlertown is also nearing flood stage, with levels at 3.0 feet and rising. Water is backing up into streets, especially in low-lying neighborhoods and along Route 100 and Route 29.

Emergency managers urge drivers to stay off flooded roads, especially before dawn when hazards are harder to see. Keep phones charged and be prepared for possible water rescues in affected areas.

Flood warnings remain active through early morning, and additional alerts may be issued if rain persists.
