Harrisburg, Pa. – An oppressive heat wave is set to grip central Pennsylvania beginning Sunday, with “feels-like” temperatures soaring above 105°F and remaining dangerously high through Wednesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, an Extreme Heat Watch covers over 20 counties, including Dauphin, Cumberland, Franklin, York, Lancaster, and Centre. The highest risk of heat-related illness is expected Monday and Tuesday, when both humidity and daytime highs will peak. Overnight temperatures will offer little relief, remaining warm and muggy.

Cities including State College, Harrisburg, York, and Lancaster may see consecutive days where outdoor activity could become hazardous. Health officials urge residents to stay indoors during peak heat hours, drink water frequently, and check on elderly neighbors. Pets should not be left outside without water or shade.

Utilities may see increased demand as cooling systems strain to keep up, and power outages are possible in some areas. Anyone without air conditioning should seek cooling centers or shaded public buildings.

The heat watch runs through 8 p.m. Wednesday, but could be upgraded to a warning if conditions worsen. Stay tuned to local alerts and visit weather.gov/StateCollege for updates.
