Pittsburgh, PA – Western Pennsylvania is waking up to the coldest air of the season this morning, with temperatures dipping into the teens and single digits across much of the region, according to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh.

As of 4:15 a.m. Friday, readings ranged from the low teens around Pittsburgh to single digits in northern and higher elevation areas, with many locations running 20 or more degrees colder than this time yesterday. The city of DuBois has already set a new record low for December 5.

Meteorologists warn that temperatures may fall even lower before sunrise, and residents are urged to dress in layers, limit time outdoors, and protect pets and plumbing from the extreme cold. Wind chills could make it feel even colder during the early morning hours.

Conditions will remain chilly throughout the day, with highs struggling to reach the upper 20s to near 30°F before another cold night ahead.
