Pennsylvania Cold Case: $5K Reward for Information on Joanne Williams’ 1978 Disappearance

Scranton, PA – Police are still searching for answers in the 1978 disappearance of Joanne Williams. Investigators are offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to a resolution.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, Williams, 22, vanished on December 7, 1978. She left her home in the 500 block of East Gibson Street in Scranton, driving her red 1977 Datsun 200 SX. She was heading to an exercise class at her dance school in Chinchilla. She never returned home.

On December 16, 1978, police found her car parked at Lafayette Street and North Everett Avenue. The doors were unlocked. Inside, police discovered her paycheck and purse, untouched. There were no signs of Williams.

She was declared legally dead in 1991, but her case remains unsolved.

Williams was 5’0” to 5’4”, weighed 95 to 105 pounds, and had blue eyes and blonde-strawberry hair. She wore blue jeans, a leotard top, and a beige tweed jacket the night she disappeared.
