Whitehall Township, PA – A $5,000 reward is being offered for information that could help solve the decades-old homicide of Jeffrey Charles Horwith, a 37-year-old businessman shot and killed outside his home in Lehigh County in 1988.

Horwith was gunned down on Friday, July 29, 1988, after returning home from dinner with his wife. The incident occurred in the Ormrod section of North Whitehall Township. Investigators say the murder took place during a home invasion robbery when Horwith encountered a masked gunman upon entering his home.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the suspect and Horwith had a brief, “polite” exchange before the gunman led him outside and fatally shot him in the chest with a shotgun. Horwith’s wife, who witnessed the incident, later provided this account to troopers.

Authorities say Horwith was the heir apparent to Horwith Trucking Inc., a prominent business based in Northampton, and was also developing a 200-unit upscale housing project in the same area at the time of his death.

The Pennsylvania State Police Troop M Criminal Investigation Assessment Unit continues to pursue leads in the cold case. Anyone with information is urged to call PSP Tips at 1-800-472-8477 or submit an anonymous online tip at https://www.p3tips.com/tipform.aspx?ID=107.

Tips that result in an arrest or significant progress in solving the case could qualify for the reward. Authorities emphasized that all details are accurate as of the latest media release, but the investigation remains active and subject to updates.
