Pennfield Township, Mich. – Deputies arrested a man after a domestic violence incident escalated into a barricaded standoff Saturday morning.

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, to the 10000 block of Brown Road for a reported domestic violence and welfare check.

Deputies made contact with an adult male and female at the residence. The woman was safely transported away from the home and told deputies she had allegedly been assaulted and held inside against her will. She also reported multiple firearms were inside the residence.

Following the initial investigation, deputies determined a domestic violence incident had occurred. The male allegedly refused to communicate with deputies and barricaded himself inside the home. Due to the reported presence of firearms, the Calhoun County Special Response Team (SRT) was activated.

Authorities said SRT personnel established a perimeter and attempted negotiations. Chemical munitions were deployed into the residence in an effort to gain compliance. The man allegedly continued to refuse commands before deputies entered the home and took him into custody without further incident.

He was transported to the Calhoun County Jail. Charges including domestic violence, unlawful imprisonment, and resisting and obstructing are being sought pending review by the Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office.

Multiple agencies assisted at the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.

The incident may have affected nearby residents and morning commuters in the Brown Road area.
