Pendleton, Oregon – Oregon’s high desert sees a surge of heat and wind Tuesday as sunny skies push Pendleton temperatures to 86°F with gusts up to 22 mph. Fire danger increases along U.S. Route 395, and residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning through at least Wednesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, Tuesday’s dry and breezy conditions will peak in the afternoon, with south winds between 7 and 11 mph increasing later in the day. Gusts could reach up to 22 mph overnight Tuesday into early Wednesday, further drying vegetation already at risk.

Tuesday night remains mostly clear with lows around 53°F. Winds will persist, keeping the region on alert for fire-related hazards. While sunny skies continue through midweek, the weather begins shifting by Friday night, when a slight chance of showers arrives just in time for the Juneteenth weekend.

By Saturday, Pendleton could see scattered showers and cooler highs in the low 70s — a noticeable break from the mid-80s heat. Showers are also possible Sunday, tapering into early next week. Residents should plan for changing conditions and pack accordingly if traveling for the holiday.

Warnings for elevated fire danger remain in effect through Wednesday. Updates will be issued as winds shift later in the week.
