Pendleton, Ore. – A brief round of light showers Saturday will give way to clear, chilly nights and a return of patchy frost by early next week across Eastern Oregon. Temperatures will swing from highs near 67 Saturday to lows in the mid-30s by Sunday night, creating a wide range of conditions for the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, a 20 percent chance of showers develops after 11 a.m. Saturday, with gusty west winds up to 18 mph. By late evening, skies clear and lows dip near 39. Frost concerns grow Sunday night as readings drop into the mid-30s under calm, clear skies.

Drivers in Umatilla and surrounding counties should watch for slick morning frost on rural roads Monday and Tuesday mornings. Gardeners may also want to cover late-season plants ahead of the cold snap. By day, however, conditions turn pleasant with highs climbing from the mid-60s Sunday to the low 70s by Tuesday.

The stretch of dry weather is expected to hold through the middle of the week, with sunny skies and afternoon highs steady in the low 70s through Friday.
