Pendleton, Ore. – Rain will greet Pendleton residents Tuesday, but sunshine is expected to return by Thursday as October kicks off with calmer weather. Drivers along Interstate 84 should prepare for slick conditions this morning before drier roads arrive later in the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, showers could develop before 11 a.m. Tuesday with heavier activity possible after 2 p.m. Winds may gust up to 18 mph, and motorists should watch for reduced visibility during passing showers. Conditions ease Wednesday night into Thursday when skies clear and daytime highs reach the upper 60s.

The brief wet spell will not linger. Pendleton’s stretch of I-84, along with local roads near Umatilla and Mission, should dry quickly under partly sunny skies Thursday. By Friday, residents can expect full sun and highs nearing 70 degrees, perfect for outdoor events and early fall harvest activities.

Travelers should still take caution during Tuesday’s unsettled period, especially on rural roads where sudden downpours could cause brief pooling of water. Keeping headlights on in rain and allowing extra stopping distance will help avoid accidents.

Fall’s more stable weather pattern sets in by the weekend with daytime highs in the upper 60s to near 70 and cool, crisp nights. Clear skies will dominate much of early October, offering excellent visibility for morning commutes and evening activities.

The next chance of unsettled conditions appears minimal through early next week. Residents can expect a stretch of dry, classic fall weather.
