PENDLETON, OR – Clouds are thickening across Eastern Oregon this Friday morning, hinting at the first in a series of wet, blustery systems moving in from the Pacific. After a calm and mild start to the day, Pendleton and surrounding communities are in for a damp and breezy stretch through Sunday, marking a true return to fall weather.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, a 30% chance of rain develops this afternoon, becoming widespread after sunset as a strong front pushes inland. Winds will pick up from the south between 10–15 mph, with gusts reaching 25–30 mph through the Columbia Plateau. Friday night’s rainfall will likely continue into Saturday morning, with new precipitation amounts near a quarter inch.
Saturday brings the most active weather of the weekend. Showers will be steady through midday, occasionally heavy, and a few rumbles of thunder can’t be ruled out. Winds will stay gusty, and temperatures will drop sharply behind the front — from near 70°F Friday to the mid-50s Saturday.
Sunday will stay cool and damp, with another round of light rain likely during the afternoon before tapering off late in the day. Highs will hover near 57°F with lows dipping to the mid-30s by early Monday. That cooling trend could bring frost to sheltered valleys next week as skies clear and winds calm.
For now, Eastern Oregon is in full fall mode — breezy, wet, and cooler by the day. Residents should keep rain gear handy and plan around gusty travel on open highways, especially I-84 and Route 11 through the foothills.
