Branches sway and debris scatters along the sidewalks this morning as strong southwest winds sweep across eastern Oregon. Drivers on I-84 and Highway 395 are facing steady rain and gusts that could top 45 MPH through early Tuesday, making for a slick and unstable commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. PST Tuesday for the Blue Mountain foothills and the Lower Columbia Basin. Winds between 28–38 MPH, with gusts reaching 45 MPH, will continue to buffet the region before gradually easing later this morning.

Officials warn that gusts this strong could knock down tree limbs, scatter unsecured objects, and cause isolated power outages. High-profile vehicles, especially on open stretches of highway, may experience difficult driving conditions. Light rain will persist through much of the day, tapering to showers by Wednesday.

By midweek, skies will begin to clear with temperatures rebounding into the low 60s by Thursday. The remainder of the week brings calmer, partly sunny conditions — a welcome shift after several blustery, rain-soaked days.
