Oregon – Rain streaks across windshields in Pendleton, and gusty breezes are already making roads slick as a quick-hit system moves through eastern Oregon.

According to the National Weather Service, rain remains likely through the afternoon with temperatures near 50°F and southwest winds increasing, with gusts reaching up to 34 mph . That combination could make driving tricky, especially on open stretches of I-84.

Across Umatilla County, including Pendleton, Hermiston, and Milton-Freewater, wet pavement and occasional wind gusts will reduce visibility and traction. Plan extra time if traveling through exposed areas where crosswinds can push vehicles.

Conditions begin to settle later as showers taper and skies gradually clear. That clearing sets up a rapid drop in temperatures. Lows fall to around 32°F by early morning, raising the risk for patchy frost and isolated slick spots where moisture lingers.

Bridges and overpasses will cool fastest. Drivers should stay alert for possible flash freezing in shaded areas, especially during the early commute window.

By Friday afternoon, sunshine returns with highs near 60°F, quickly improving conditions. The first weekend of April brings a steady warm-up, with highs climbing into the upper 60s Saturday and low 70s Sunday under mostly sunny skies.

Looking ahead, early next week continues mild with temperatures holding in the upper 60s to low 70s before slight rain chances return.
