Florence, S.C. – Roads and neighborhoods across parts of northeastern South Carolina are under water this afternoon as torrential rain triggers a flash flood emergency. By 1:43 p.m., radar showed slow-moving thunderstorms dumping heavy rainfall over Florence, Darlington, Dillon, Marion and Marlboro counties, with flooding already reported in multiple low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, the Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until at least 4:45 p.m. Monday. Areas along U.S. 76, I-95, and S.C. Highway 52 could see rapidly rising water, making travel dangerous or impossible. Officials urge drivers to avoid flooded streets and never attempt to cross barricades.

Communities at highest risk include Florence, Lake City, Darlington, Timmonsville, Pamplico, and the campus areas around Francis Marion University and Florence-Darlington Technical College. Poor drainage zones, underpasses, and small creeks are likely to flood first.

Residents should move vehicles to higher ground, keep phones charged, and monitor local media for updates. Additional thunderstorms could worsen conditions before evening.

Warnings remain in effect through late afternoon, with more alerts possible if storms persist into the night.
