Peachtree City, GA – The National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City warns that dense fog is covering portions of north and central Georgia early Wednesday morning, reducing visibility to less than a quarter mile in some areas.
Drivers across Peachtree City, Atlanta, and surrounding communities should be prepared for slower travel and poor visibility through mid- to late morning. The NWS advises motorists to use low-beam headlights, reduce speed, and increase following distance when navigating fog-covered roads.
The fog developed overnight under calm winds and cool temperatures, creating ideal conditions for radiational fog to form near dawn. Conditions are expected to gradually improve by midmorning as the sun rises and temperatures warm.
Officials caution that visibility may fluctuate quickly, especially in valleys and low-lying areas near waterways. Interstate 85, I-75, and local highways could experience pockets of thicker fog, especially around sunrise.
“Take it slow and allow extra time for your morning commute,” NWS Peachtree City stated. “Even familiar routes can become dangerous when visibility drops unexpectedly.”
Although fog is expected to lift by late morning, some isolated patches of lingering fog could persist through 9–10 a.m. as temperatures slowly rise. Once the fog clears, skies will become partly cloudy with afternoon highs in the upper 50s to low 60s across central Georgia.
Motorists are encouraged to monitor the latest visibility reports and any advisories issued at weather.gov/ffc or follow @NWSAtlanta on social media for real-time travel updates.
