Charleston, West Virginia – Gusty winds and scattered thunderstorms could sweep across West Virginia on Thursday, especially during the afternoon and early evening hours, bringing the risk of isolated power outages and travel delays.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Level 1 (Marginal Risk) severe weather threat has been issued for much of the state, with strong winds as the main concern. Showers may begin in the morning, but the more intense activity is expected to redevelop mid-afternoon and continue into the evening. Storms could produce damaging gusts and dangerous lightning from Huntington to Clarksburg and south through Beckley.

Communities including Athens, Parkersburg, Elkins, and Snowshoe are advised to stay weather-aware, especially during the evening commute. While widespread damage is unlikely, isolated tree or utility line issues can’t be ruled out. Outdoor plans and high-profile vehicle travel should be reconsidered during peak storm hours.

Residents are urged to monitor local alerts and be prepared to act quickly if a warning is issued. While the storm system may bring beneficial rain to parts of the state, scattered hazards remain possible through Thursday night.
