Lubbock, Texas – Strong storms are expected to move across the South Plains Tuesday afternoon, bringing the risk of 65 mph wind gusts and hail as large as half dollars, especially in and around Lubbock.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, a marginal risk for severe weather will persist through early Wednesday morning. Areas including Plainview, Morton, Post, and Childress could see isolated strong storms capable of localized damage. Wind gusts may down small limbs or unsecured items, and hail could damage vehicles and crops.

Counties most at risk include Lubbock, Crosby, Lamb, and Garza. While tornado chances remain low, the primary threats are damaging winds and hail. The strongest storms are likely during the late afternoon and early evening hours.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor belongings, avoid unnecessary travel during high winds, and monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts for updates. This storm system follows a quieter weather pattern, marking a return to typical summer instability across West Texas.

More updates may follow if storms intensify or warnings are issued.
