Amarillo, Texas – Triple-digit heat continues to bear down on the Texas Panhandle this weekend, with parts of the region—especially around Palo Duro Canyon—flirting with 100°F on Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, highs across the region will range from 92 to 99°F today, with strong south winds blowing at 20 to 30 mph. Cities like Guymon and Borger could peak at 98°F, while Amarillo and Dumas sit close behind at 96°F. The intense heat continues through Sunday with only a slight dip, but changes are expected early next week.

By Monday, temperatures are forecast to drop slightly to a range of 84 to 95°F, especially in the western Panhandle, as storm chances increase. A 30% chance of thunderstorms arrives Sunday evening, rising to 50% by Monday, particularly west of Amarillo. Gusty winds and possible downpours could affect late-day travel.

Residents should stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and secure loose objects due to high winds. Those near canyons and open terrain should remain alert for sudden gusts or fire danger.

Storms and cooler temps may build in through midweek, with additional advisories possible.
