Tallahassee, Florida – Inland temperatures could reach the low 80s later this week, nearing daily record highs.
According to the US National Weather Service in Tallahassee, very warm conditions are forecast to build across the Florida Panhandle, Big Bend, and portions of South Georgia from Thursday through Saturday. Inland high temperatures are expected to climb into the low 80s, well above seasonal averages for late February.
Forecasters indicate that most inland communities, including Tallahassee near Interstate 10 and US-27, Thomasville along US-19, and Valdosta near Interstate 75, could see highs between 80 and 84 degrees. Daily record highs in Tallahassee for this time of year range from 83 to 84 degrees, placing the city within reach of record territory.
Probability maps show a strong likelihood of temperatures exceeding 80 degrees across much of the region, particularly away from immediate coastal areas. Coastal communities such as Panama City along US-98 may remain slightly cooler but still above normal.
The warm spell is expected to persist through Saturday before a cold front moves through the region. Behind the front, a cooldown is forecast early next week, bringing temperatures closer to seasonal averages.
While no hazardous weather is currently expected, the unseasonable warmth may impact outdoor workers, students at after-school activities, and drivers traveling along I-10 and US-27 during peak afternoon heat.
Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated and monitor forecast updates as the frontal system approaches.
