Palos Park, IL – A 26-year-old Burbank man faces six felony counts of disorderly conduct after a months-long investigation into false fire alarms targeting the Palos Fire Protection District.

According to the Palos Park Police Department, the investigation began on March 18, when the Palos Fire Protection District reported numerous false fire tones. Each incident activated emergency alerts at fire stations, though no calls for service had been made.

On March 19, police responded to another false alarm at the Palos Fire Protection District Station #1 and detained a man found at the scene. A search of his vehicle revealed portable radio equipment, and further investigation involved multiple suburban law enforcement agencies.

On July 1, Michael J. O’Conner voluntarily surrendered to Palos Park police. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved six felony counts against him. O’Conner was charged and released with a notice to appear. The investigation remains ongoing, with collaboration from various law enforcement agencies.
