Los Angeles, California – Snow and 70 mph wind gusts could turn Highway 14 into a slick and dangerous drive by late evening, threatening both the Thursday night and Friday morning commutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. PST Friday for the Western San Gabriel Mountains and Highway 14 Corridor, including the Antelope Valley foothills. Snow totals of 1 to 4 inches are expected between 3,500 and 4,500 feet, with 4 to 8 inches possible above 4,500 feet. Winds may gust between 60 and 70 mph through late tonight.

Communities including Acton, Pearblossom, Llano, Valyermo, Lake Palmdale, and Elizabeth Lake could see snow-covered roads overnight. Gusty crosswinds along Highway 14 may reduce visibility and blow snow across lanes, especially in exposed stretches near Soledad Pass. Falling tree branches are possible as heavy, wet snow combines with strong winds.

Drivers should delay mountain travel if possible. If travel is necessary, carry extra food, water, and a flashlight in case of delays. Check 511 for updated road conditions and possible chain controls.

The warning remains in effect through early Friday morning, with gradual improvement expected after sunrise as snowfall tapers and winds slowly ease.
