Palm Beach, FL – Streets across Palm Beach County are seeing water pile up this afternoon as heavy rain from slow-moving thunderstorms pushes across southeast Florida. A Flood Advisory remains in effect until 5:15 p.m. Thursday, with minor flooding already reported in low-lying neighborhoods and poor drainage areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, Doppler radar detected heavy rainfall around 3:10 p.m., prompting the advisory. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain had already fallen in parts of the county, with an additional 2 to 3 inches expected before storms move out.
The heaviest impacts are focused on cities including Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, and smaller communities such as Kings Point, Village of Golf, and Villages of Oriole. Drivers are urged to avoid areas like Dunes Road and Morikami Park, where ponding on streets and intersections is likely to slow traffic and create dangerous conditions.
Emergency officials remind residents to avoid driving through standing water, noting most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. Motorists are advised to turn around rather than risk stalling in deeper spots.
The advisory is set to expire at 5:15 p.m., though forecasters caution that more alerts could be issued if additional storms redevelop this evening.
