Palatka, FL – The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has officially opened donation collections for its 7th Annual Shop with a Deputy event, a holiday program that pairs local teens with deputies for a day of shopping, connection, and support. The department announced Wednesday that preparations are underway, with a goal of assisting 25 teenagers this year.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the program focuses on teens experiencing housing insecurity, the loss of a parent, time in state care, or other traumatic events. Participants are selected through partnerships with Guardian ad Litem and local schools across Putnam County. Last year, the department served 18 teens and saw one of its strongest community turnouts to date.

The sheriff’s team said the event is designed to build trust and relationships between youth and deputies. After shopping, teens and officers share a meal together—an experience organizers say often reveals how much teens prioritize necessary items such as toiletries, bedding, and personal care supplies, as well as gifts for siblings or family members.

As the program has expanded, the Ten-24 Foundation has taken on a larger role, including providing tax-deduction forms for donors. Walmart Palatka and its staff have also supported the event since its inception.

Donations can include Visa gift cards, Walmart gift cards, cash, or checks. Drop-offs may be made in person at 130 Orie Griffin Blvd., Palatka, FL 32177, or mailed. Checks should be written to Ten-24 Foundation with “Shop with a Deputy” in the memo. The Sheriff’s Office asks donors not to mail cash or gift cards. Those wanting a tax-deductible receipt should include their name, contact number, and mailing address.
