Pagosa Springs, CO – Travelers heading into the high country of southern Colorado should prepare for worsening winter conditions through early Monday as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 a.m. Monday for the Eastern San Juan Mountains above 10,000 feet, including Wolf Creek Pass and Cumbres Pass.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, 4 to 8 inches of snow are expected across the region, accompanied by wind gusts reaching 45 mph. These conditions will make travel difficult through the evening and overnight hours, particularly along high-elevation corridors used by residents and travelers moving between Pagosa Springs, South Fork, Creede, and nearby communities.

Forecasters warn that rapidly deteriorating road conditions are likely during periods of brief but intense snow bursts, which may develop through the evening. Reduced visibility, slick pavement, and accumulating snow at pass level may create hazardous travel for commuters, tourists, and commercial drivers.

In addition to travel concerns, the National Weather Service notes that strong winds may bring down tree branches, especially in exposed areas near ridge lines and mountain passes.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra time, and use extreme caution if traveling tonight. Motorists can access real-time statewide road information by dialing 511.

Residents heading into higher terrain should be prepared for sudden shifts in weather, especially after sunset when temperatures will fall and snow is expected to continue.
