Paducah, Ky. – Dangerous heat continues across western Kentucky today, with heat index values reaching up to 105 degrees and scattered afternoon storms offering the only shot at relief.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, air temperatures will climb into the low-to-mid 90s, while high humidity pushes the perceived heat well into the triple digits. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop along a boundary this afternoon, potentially bringing brief cooling but also the risk of lightning and gusty winds.
Communities across Ballard, McCracken, Graves, and Marshall counties should prepare for intense heat from late morning through early evening. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Storms could briefly reduce temperatures but may also lead to localized street flooding or downed limbs.
This early-week heat wave comes on the heels of a hot July stretch, with several counties already nearing monthly temperature records. Similar conditions are forecast through midweek, with little overnight cooling expected.
Additional advisories may be issued as the heat lingers. Residents should monitor updates from local emergency management and the National Weather Service.
