Paducah, KY – A Freeze Warning has been issued for southeast Missouri and southern Illinois as skies clear and temperatures plunge late tonight into early Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Paducah.

The warning is in effect from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. CST Sunday, with low temperatures expected to reach the upper 20s to near 30°F across much of the region. Carter and Wayne counties in Missouri have been upgraded from a watch to a Freeze Warning, while surrounding areas remain under a Freeze Watch.

Forecasters say this cold snap could bring an end to the growing season, as widespread frost and subfreezing temperatures are likely overnight. Clear skies and light winds will create ideal conditions for frost formation across the Quad State region, including parts of Missouri, Illinois, and western Kentucky.

Residents are urged to protect sensitive plants and bring outdoor vegetation indoors to prevent damage.

Sunday will bring sunny skies and a gradual warm-up, but temperatures will remain below normal through the morning hours before rebounding into the 50s by afternoon.
