Paducah, Kentucky – Dense fog is expected to reduce visibility to a quarter mile or less overnight into Thursday morning, creating hazardous travel conditions across parts of western Kentucky and surrounding areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Thursday for portions of southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, and western Kentucky. Forecasters warn that visibility may drop sharply at times, especially in low-lying areas and along rural roadways.
In addition to reduced visibility, temperatures are expected to fall below freezing overnight. The combination of fog and freezing temperatures could lead to slick spots developing on roads, particularly on bridges and overpasses.
The NWS advises drivers to reduce speed, increase following distance, and use low-beam headlights when traveling in fog. Officials also encourage motorists to be prepared for sudden visibility changes and icy patches during the early morning commute.
Fog-related hazards are expected to be most pronounced overnight and during the Thursday morning drive, before conditions gradually improve later in the morning.
Commuters, school transportation routes, and early-morning travelers may be especially impacted by the dense fog and potential slick road conditions. Residents are urged to allow extra travel time and monitor local conditions closely.
