Paducah, Ky. – A stretch of summer-like heat will give way to an active storm pattern across western Kentucky this weekend, with the highest chances for thunderstorms arriving late Sunday into Monday night. The National Weather Service in Paducah said temperatures will remain above normal until a midweek cooldown returns conditions closer to seasonal averages.

According to the Weather Service, scattered showers and storms could pop up Saturday, but storm coverage will expand Sunday night through Monday. Widespread downpours, gusty winds, and frequent lightning are possible, especially along the Interstate 24 corridor from Paducah to Henderson. Drivers may face reduced visibility and ponding on roads during the Monday morning and evening commutes.

Areas such as Owensboro, Madisonville, and Murray should also prepare for periods of heavy rainfall and localized flooding in low-lying spots. Emergency officials urge residents to avoid driving through standing water and to secure outdoor items ahead of gusty winds.

By Tuesday, showers will linger before a push of cooler, drier air brings relief midweek. Highs will fall back into the upper 70s to low 80s by Wednesday, a break from the 90-degree heat of late.
