Paducah, Ky. – Kentucky’s stretch of dry, warm weather is about to break as scattered showers and thunderstorms develop Tuesday into early Thursday, followed by a sharp shift toward cooler, fall-like air. The National Weather Service in Paducah said rain amounts look light, meaning drought conditions across the region will likely persist.

According to the agency, the first cold front is expected to move through Wednesday night into Thursday morning, dropping afternoon highs into the 70s and bringing overnight lows into the upper 40s and 50s by week’s end. A second front could arrive late Friday, reinforcing the cooler pattern into the weekend.

Cities including Paducah, Owensboro and Hopkinsville could see brief downpours and gusty winds midweek, though the limited rainfall will do little for stressed crops and low rivers. Drivers may encounter slick spots on rural roads, especially during early morning commutes.

Residents are urged to prepare for changing conditions by keeping rain gear handy through midweek, then planning for much cooler nights heading into Friday. The shift will mark one of the first true fall-like stretches of the season.

Advisories could be issued if storms strengthen Tuesday night into Wednesday, with more updates expected later this week.
