Paducah, Kentucky – Sweltering humidity and rising temperatures are set to grip western Kentucky as the region heads toward mid-August, with a stretch of days in the lower 90s and heat index values expected to climb close to 100 by next week. According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, the return of a daily chance for thunderstorms is likely to bring some relief, but also introduces new concerns for outdoor plans and travel.

Sunny skies will dominate through the weekend, with highs holding steady around 93°F and sticky conditions making it feel even hotter. The shift comes early next week as scattered thunderstorms begin to pop up, especially Monday through Wednesday. Roads could become slick during downpours and brief gusty winds can’t be ruled out, particularly during afternoon storms. Residents should keep water on hand, limit strenuous activities outdoors during peak heat, and have a way to receive weather alerts as storms develop.

The heat index will inch upwards, making evenings uncomfortable for many, and the risk of heat exhaustion rises with continued humidity. More advisories may be issued if storms intensify or heat persists into late week.
