PADUCAH, Kentucky – A series of fast-moving fronts will bring gusty winds and a turn toward colder weather across the Quad State region through the weekend, with light showers and isolated storms possible before much chillier air settles in.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, winds will increase Friday ahead of an approaching cold front, gusting 20 to 30 mph across western Kentucky, southern Illinois, and southeast Missouri. A few isolated to scattered showers or storms may develop Friday afternoon in the eastern counties before diminishing by evening.

Forecasters say another round of light showers will move through Saturday night as colder air pours into the region. “The weekend will turn breezy and noticeably colder, with highs dropping into the 40s and lows in the 20s and 30s by Sunday,” meteorologists noted. The strongest gusts are expected Saturday and Sunday afternoons, especially near the Ohio River and open rural areas.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items and use caution when driving high-profile vehicles during gusty periods. Winds are expected to remain brisk into early next week before easing by midweek as temperatures gradually rebound.
