Paducah, KY – A round of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected across western Kentucky, southeast Missouri, and southern Illinois Saturday afternoon through early Sunday morning, bringing damaging winds, large hail, and the threat of isolated tornadoes. The National Weather Service in Paducah warns that storms could organize into a complex producing wind gusts up to 70 mph and rainfall totals over an inch in spots.

According to the National Weather Service Paducah office, storms will first develop over southeast Missouri and southern Illinois between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., then track southeast toward Paducah, Mayfield, and Madisonville by Saturday evening through about 1 a.m. Sunday. The highest severe potential lies near and north of the Ohio River, including Cape Girardeau and Marion. Rainfall amounts between 1 and 1.5 inches may lead to minor flooding, particularly in low-lying or poorly drained areas.

Residents are urged to remain alert for warnings, especially during evening hours when storms may arrive after dark. Damaging winds could knock out power or bring down limbs, while hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter could dent vehicles and damage roofs. Travelers along I-24, US-60, and the Purchase Parkway should expect reduced visibility and ponding on roads.

Emergency managers advise keeping devices charged and securing outdoor items ahead of the storms. Conditions should gradually improve by daybreak Sunday, followed by cooler, calmer weather.
