Paducah, Kentucky — A slow-moving storm system is expected to bring widespread rain across western Kentucky this weekend, with rainfall totals projected between 1 and 2.5 inches in parts of the region.
According to a Tuesday update from the National Weather Service office in Paducah, rain chances will increase Saturday morning and remain elevated through Sunday morning as the system crosses the area. Forecast guidance shows the highest rainfall probabilities during that window, particularly across southern portions of the region.
Rainfall projections indicate most locations around Paducah could receive 1 to 1.5 inches, with higher totals—up to 2.5 inches—more likely south of the city. Areas along and south of Interstate 24, including communities near U.S. Route 60, the Purchase Parkway, and I-69 corridors, are included in the zone with greater rainfall potential.
The weather service noted the system’s slow movement as a key factor in the expected totals. No severe weather or flooding statements were included in the update, and the post focused specifically on rain timing and accumulation projections.
Rain chances appear lower late Sunday into early next week once the system exits the region, though the National Weather Service emphasized that rainfall amounts may continue to be refined as the weekend approaches.
The forecast applies broadly to western Kentucky and surrounding portions of southern Illinois and southeast Missouri covered by the Paducah office. Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts for any changes in timing or totals.
The weekend timing may be relevant for commuters, students, and service workers traveling during peak Saturday and Sunday morning hours, particularly on primary highways in southern areas.
