Paducah, KY — Western Kentucky is heading toward an unusually warm Christmas week, with temperatures expected to climb into the upper 60s and low 70s, potentially making it one of the warmest Christmas periods residents have experienced in years.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, temperatures will cool slightly on Sunday, December 21, following mild conditions Saturday. Highs Sunday are forecast to settle into the mid-40s to low 50s, offering a brief return to more seasonable December weather.

That cooldown will be short-lived. Forecasters say a strong warming trend begins early next week, pushing temperatures well above normal. By Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, highs across much of the Paducah region are expected to reach the upper 60s to near 70 degrees, with some nearby communities possibly climbing into the low 70s.

Cities across the Quad State area—including Paducah, Murray, Owensboro, and Poplar Bluff—are all forecast to experience springlike temperatures during the holiday. Overnight lows will also remain mild, generally staying in the 40s and 50s, far above typical late-December readings.

The National Weather Service notes that the best chance of rain arrives Monday night into early Tuesday, though rainfall totals are expected to remain light. After that system moves through, dry conditions are forecast to return as the warm air persists through midweek.

Forecasters say the extended warmth is the result of persistent southerly flow and an active weather pattern across the central United States. While no winter weather hazards are expected, the mild conditions may impact traditional holiday activities and outdoor plans.

With holiday travel increasing, drivers should remain aware of changing conditions Monday night, especially during overnight hours when rain could briefly affect roads.
