Paducah, Kentucky – Severe thunderstorms could impact western Kentucky Thursday afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, confidence is increasing that strong to severe storms will develop across much of the region on Thursday, with the primary window during the afternoon and evening hours.

Forecasters say tornadoes and damaging wind gusts are currently the main threats. The timing of the strongest storms is expected later in the day as a cold front moves through the region.

Temperatures will climb well above seasonal averages before storms arrive. Highs are forecast to reach 70 to 75 degrees Thursday, roughly 20 to 25 degrees above normal for mid-February. Breezy conditions are also expected.

Patchy dense fog may develop again late tonight into Tuesday morning, especially in low-lying areas and near rivers, potentially affecting early commuters.

The severe weather outlook includes communities along Interstate 24 near Paducah, Interstate 69 near Madisonville and Evansville, and Interstate 65 near Bowling Green. More specific timing details are expected within the next two to three days as forecast confidence improves.

While confidence in storm development is rising, the Weather Service notes uncertainty remains regarding available moisture and the exact timing of the cold front.

Students, shift workers, and evening commuters should monitor updated forecasts as conditions evolve Thursday.
