Confidence is increasing that a notable warmup will return to portions of western Kentucky and the lower Ohio Valley next week, offering a sharp break from recent cold conditions.

According to the National Weather Service Paducah, forecast guidance now shows at least a 50 percent chance of temperatures reaching 60 degrees across parts of the region during the February 11–12 period. This would mark a substantial departure from the colder-than-normal weather experienced recently.

Probability maps indicate the highest chances of 60-degree temperatures across areas near and south of the Interstate 24 corridor, including locations around Paducah, Murray, Mayfield, and Benton. Portions of southeast Missouri and southern Illinois may also see similar warming trends, particularly near I-55 and I-57.

If realized, highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s would exceed seasonal averages by a wide margin. Typical high temperatures for mid-February in this region are generally in the upper 40s, making this warmup especially noticeable.

The National Weather Service notes that while confidence in above-normal temperatures is growing, exact high temperatures will continue to be refined as the period approaches. Overnight lows are also expected to moderate, reducing the risk of hard freezes and widespread refreezing on roadways.

Dry conditions are currently favored during the warmup window, which would support improved travel conditions along major routes including I-24, U.S. 60, U.S. 62, and the Purchase Parkway. However, drivers are reminded that late-winter patterns can still change quickly.

For commuters, outdoor workers, and students, the warmer temperatures could provide a welcome and noticeable shift after an extended stretch of cold weather. Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts from the National Weather Service as confidence continues to increase heading into next week.
