Paducah, KY – Light freezing rain early this morning is creating slippery travel conditions across the Paducah area, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, the Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. for parts of western Kentucky due to light freezing rain. Even minor ice accumulation can create hazardous conditions on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads.
The greatest impacts are expected during the early morning commute, when temperatures remain near or below freezing. Drivers may encounter slick spots, especially on secondary roads and elevated surfaces.
Forecasters say temperatures are expected to gradually warm through the morning, possibly reaching around 40 degrees by late morning, which should help improve road conditions as freezing rain transitions to plain rain or ends altogether.
Travel on Interstate 24, U.S. Highway 60, U.S. Highway 62, and U.S. Highway 45 may be affected until temperatures rise. Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and use caution when approaching intersections and ramps.
The National Weather Service advises travelers to remain cautious until conditions improve and to continue monitoring updates if plans involve travel during the morning hours.
