Paducah, KY — The National Weather Service in Paducah is warning of strong winds and an incoming cold front that will bring a noticeable drop in temperatures across western Kentucky beginning Wednesday, December 10.
Southwest winds of 25 to 40 mph, with locally higher gusts, will shift to the northwest during the day as the front sweeps through the area. This may cause difficult travel for high-profile vehicles and blowing debris, especially along open stretches of Interstate 24 and the I-64 corridor.
“Gusty southwest winds will give way to colder northwest winds by late afternoon,” forecasters said. “By evening, temperatures will begin to tumble as the front clears the region.”
Highs will range from the mid-40s to near 50°F, followed by overnight lows dipping into the mid-20s. Thursday will remain chilly, with highs only in the 30s to upper 40s, and a slight chance of light snow or flurries north of I-64 Thursday night.
Conditions moderate briefly on Friday before another surge of Arctic air moves in for the weekend. Saturday and Sunday will bring daytime highs in the 20s to 30s and overnight lows in the single digits. Wind chills could fall to zero or below, especially late Saturday night into early Sunday morning.
The NWS advises residents to secure outdoor decorations, bundle up, and prepare for bitter cold lasting into early next week.
